Gujarat & Maharashtra: Five Jyotirlingas
The five nearest Jyotirlingas by road, with Shirdi and the Ellora Caves as natural add-ons. The most-booked of our four Jyotirlinga trips, and the only one that needs no flight at all if your group is willing to do one long highway hop.
Day by day
First Jyotirlinga
Leave by 6 am for Somnath (400 km, about 7 hours) with a breakfast halt near Rajkot. Afternoon rest, evening darshan at Somnath Temple and the 7:45 pm Sound and Light Show.
Second Jyotirlinga: Nageshwar
Early morning darshan at Somnath, then drive to Dwarka via Porbandar (240 km, 5 hours). Nageshwar Temple, 17 km short of Dwarka, first; then Dwarkadhish and Rukmini Devi temples, and the evening aarti.
Crossing to Maharashtra
Morning darshan, then drive to Rajkot (230 km, 4 hours) to fly Rajkot–Mumbai — the direct road distance to Nashik exceeds 900 km, so this is the one flight in an otherwise road-based trip. From Mumbai airport, a further 4-hour drive to Nashik; you arrive late evening.
Third Jyotirlinga: Trimbakeshwar
Trimbakeshwar Temple, 28 km from Nashik, best visited before 8 am to avoid the day's queue build-up. Men enter bare-chested in a dhoti (available on hire). Afternoon at Panchavati and, for those interested, a short visit to the Sula vineyards. Drive on to Bhimashankar (210 km, 5 hours) or stay overnight in Nashik and go early next morning depending on group energy.
Fourth Jyotirlinga: Bhimashankar
Bhimashankar Temple sits inside a wildlife sanctuary at 1,230 m; the last stretch is a steep ghat drive and the sanctum is reached down several hundred steps — the toughest walk on this itinerary for elderly travellers, who can wait at the base while others go down. Afterwards drive to Shirdi (about 220 km via Ahmednagar, 5 hours) for the evening.
Fifth Jyotirlinga: Grishneshwar
Morning darshan at Shirdi Sai Baba Temple (a separate, faster queue exists for seniors), then drive to Ellora (130 km, 3 hours). Grishneshwar, the smallest of the twelve Jyotirlingas, sits at the entrance to the Ellora Caves — a short, simple darshan. Spend the afternoon touring the Ellora Caves (closed Tuesdays).
Fly home
Morning flight Aurangabad–Ahmedabad (via Mumbai, about 3 hours total) or, for groups without a flight booked, a full-day drive back (about 800 km, best split into two days if driven).
