Kedarnath, Srisailam & Rameshwaram
For families who have already done the western and central Jyotirlingas and are left with the three hardest-to-combine ones — Kedarnath, Srisailam and Rameshwaram — which share nothing geographically except that each needs its own dedicated flight leg from Ahmedabad.
Day by day
Start of the Kedarnath leg
Morning flight Ahmedabad–Dehradun (via Delhi, about 3 hours total), then drive to Haridwar (35 km, 1 hour). If you have not already registered online for the Kedarnath yatra (mandatory, done at register.uttarakhandtourism.gov.in), complete it tonight — it is checked again at Sonprayag.
Into the hills
Drive via Rudraprayag to Guptkashi or Sersi (about 210 km, 8–9 hours on hill roads, so leave by 6 am). This town at about 1,319 m is also your acclimatisation base before Kedarnath's 3,583 m — take it slow this evening, no exertion, drink plenty of water.
Acclimatisation day
A deliberately light day: a short walk to Ukhimath or the local Vishwanath Temple, confirming your helicopter booking (Phata, Guptkashi or Sersi heliports, booked in advance via IRCTC and weather-dependent) or arranging pony/doli/palki if trekking. Seniors and anyone with breathing or heart concerns should use this day to rest fully rather than sightsee.
Tenth Jyotirlinga: Kedarnath
Helicopter (about 8 minutes each way) or the 16 km trek from Gaurikund/Sonprayag on foot, pony, or palki/doli for those who cannot walk it — the trek takes 7–9 hours uphill for a fit adult, considerably longer with a pony or doli. Darshan at Kedarnath Temple; the air is thin and cold even in season, so keep the visit unhurried and layer up regardless of the month.
Descent and buffer day
This day is a deliberate buffer, since Kedarnath helicopter flights are frequently delayed or cancelled for weather — if day 4 went as planned, use today to descend fully to Haridwar or Dehradun and rest before the flight south.
Eleventh Jyotirlinga: Mallikarjuna
Fly Dehradun–Hyderabad (via Delhi, about 4–5 hours total), then a further drive to Srisailam (about 210 km on a winding ghat road through the Nallamala forest, 5 hours) — this is a long travel day, so keep it light on the arrival end. Evening darshan if you arrive before the 10 pm closing; otherwise first thing tomorrow.
Mallikarjuna darshan
Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba darshan (temple open roughly 4:30 am–10 pm with a midday closure around 1–2 pm); Sarva Darshan queues move steadily most days, and a paid Special Entry darshan is available for those short on time. Short visit to Patala Ganga on the Krishna river below the temple. The ghat drive up and the temple's own steps make this a moderately tiring day for seniors — plan a slow pace.
Towards the twelfth Jyotirlinga
Drive back to Hyderabad (5 hours), fly to Madurai (about 1.5 hours), then a final road transfer to Rameshwaram (170 km, 3.5 hours) — a long day, arriving late evening. This is purely a travel day; save your energy for tomorrow's temple.
Twelfth Jyotirlinga: Ramanathaswamy, and home
Early darshan at Ramanathaswamy Temple (opens 5 am) and, for those who want the full ritual, a bath at the 22 theerthams inside the temple complex — priests assist and it takes about an hour. A short visit to Dhanushkodi if time allows, then drive to Madurai (170 km, 3.5 hours) for the evening flight home to Ahmedabad (via Chennai or Bengaluru).
